The Ouachita Parish Public Works Department located at 337 Well Road in West Monroe, Louisiana is responsible for the maintenance of parish roads and drainage. This work includes related surface maintenance, drainage, vegetation control, bridges, and traffic signs and overseeing subdivision development. Currently there are approximately 814 miles of hard surface roads and 53 miles of gravel roads in the parish system.
Primary funding for the Public Works Department is provided by a one-cent sales tax that is collected in the unincorporated areas of Ouachita Parish. This tax generates around $5,000,000 annually and is dedicated to the maintenance of roads and bridges.
The department employs approximately 85 full time and temporary workers. The Ouachita Parish Public Works Department is working hard to enter the new millennium with a positive outlook and desire to "MAINTAIN THE ROAD" into the 21st Century.
