Welcome
The Ouchaita Parish LaJET Program is administered through the Ouachita Parish Police Jury. The program is housed in the Ouachita One Stop For Jobs Center located in the Eastgate Shopping Center at 3158 Louisville Avenue in Monroe 71201.
What is LaJET?
Louisiana Job Employment Training (LaJET) is mandated through the Food Stamp Program by the Food Security Act of 1985. Its purpose is to provide employment and training services to Food Stamp recipients who are mandatory work registrants.
The LaJET Program is the cooperative employment and training services initiative of four entities:
- Local Office of Family Support
- State Food Stamp Program Office
- Local Governing authorities
- Louisiana Department of Labor (LDOL)
The local Office of Family Support staff identifies LaJET participants. The Food Stamp Program will notify the LaJET service provider weekly of the LaJET participants who are to be provided employment and training services. The contractors (LaJET Program) is responsible for scheduling participants into the offices, assessing, counseling, and placing each participant into the appropriate component for training.
The Goal of LaJET
To instruct mandatory work registrants in the basic skills needed to enhance their chances of gaining employment.
LaJET encourages its participants to voluntarily pursue other services available at the One Stop For Jobs Center and other service centers. These services include:
- Adult Education
- Vocational Technical Schools linked with Pell Grants
- WIA Title I (Adult/Dislocated Workers) Program
- Welfare-to-Work Program
- Job Service (LDOL)
- . . . and other service oriented providers
