Fire Prevention

In the Community—Not only in Emergencies!

Ouachita Parish Fire Department is an integral part of the community in everyday life as well as emergencies. One of the biggest priorities of our Department is fire education and emergency prevention! Any given day, OPFD may be seen at area schools or community events. Just a few activities and places that we have been at recently include:

  • WalMart
  • Pecanland Mall Community Fair Day
  • Lowe's
  • Home Depot
  • Sam's Wholesale Club
  • USDA Food Bank Distribution
  • Home Expo
  • Children with Diabetes at Kiroli Park
  • Parish Library

Through participating in community education, Ouachita Parish Fire Department has recognized that school children are a prime audience. It has also been noted that young "latchkey kids" are common in our area, and these unattended children can be in very dangerous accident-prone situations in their homes. One program places a specially designed fire prevention trailer, the Fire Safety House, at the schools, community centers and area businesses for scheduled times throughout the year. The ultimate goal is that these endangered children will retain the knowledge to prepare their families should an emergency situation occur.
