Volunteers

We here at the Ouachita Parish Animal Control Shelter greatly appreciate your time and effort as a volunteer. There are many things that you can do to help the animals while they are here. They need things as simple as love and attention. They also need their kennels cleaned and food bowls washed. Again, we appreciate your willingness to volunteer at the shelter but you must also understand that this is a business that must be run as such. There are also dangers here, which is why you must read and sign the following guidelines. Failure to comply with any of the following rules may result in your termination as a volunteer.

  1. The director must approve all volunteers.
  2. All volunteers must sign in and out.
  3. There are certain areas that are off limits. These areas include but not limited to the euthanization area, animal unloading and kennels with caution signs.
  4. There will be no personal calls made on the shelter phone.
  5. There will be no loitering in the office.
  6. All dogs must be on a leash whenever they are out of their kennels (except puppies).
  7. All volunteers are asked to do his or her best to train the dogs in the simple obedience of walking on a leash.
