OUACHITA PARISH POLICE JURY
FEMA Floodplain InformationIf your property is listed on this FEMA Floodplain list,
the Ouachita Parish Police Jury wants to inform you that the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (“FEMA”) has included your property in a
special flood hazard area on FEMA’s new preliminary Digital Flood
Insurance Rate Maps. If you have a loan on your house through
a federally regulated lender and do not already have flood insurance,
your lender will require you to purchase flood insurance when the new
maps become effective. You might be able to take advantage of
certain cost saving options available through the National Flood
Insurance Program if you purchase flood insurance before the maps
become effective. If you feel that FEMA’s map changes are
incorrect, you have the right to present FEMA with an appeal or protest
of the change with the proper documentation. If you deliver your appeal
or protest to the Ouachita Parish Permit Office at 1650 DeSiard St,
Suite 202, in Monroe, by 4:00 p.m. on October 1, 2010 they will be
forwarded to FEMA. "Click Here"
to open the form to appeal FEMA's placement of your property in FEMA's
new floodplain map. You will want to check the "This is an appeal
of base flood elevation (BFE) determinations" box, and fill out as much
of the form as possible. Here is the documentation for completing the Appeal / Protest to FEMA.
